Fireworks prohibited, burn ban declared

A burn ban was issued for Jackson County on June 27 during a special Jackson County Commissioners’ Court meeting, but fireworks can still be sold and discharged in the county.
All outdoor burning is prohibited in the unincorporated area of the county from now until Sept. 25, unless restrictions are terminated earlier based on a determination made by the Texas Forest Service or the court.
Allen Friedrich of the Jackson County Office of Emergency Management, said the drought index on June 27 was 587 with some areas as high as 696. The forecast is for continued dry conditions and for the index to reach higher levels. Citizens are urged to use extreme caution during any activity that might result in the accidental ignition of a fire.
