Sisters make THSRA rodeo history

History sometimes repeats itself.
Inez’s McKenna and Avery Greene made history on June 9 when McKenna was crowned 2013 Miss Texas High School Rodeo Association’s Queen in Abilene. It was only the fourth time since 1947 when THSRA first started in Hallettsville that a set of siblings have been crowned Miss THSRA. Avery and McKenna were crowned two years apart.
McKenna said it was a showdown between her and 2012 Miss THSRA Tianti Carter of Fort Worth. She said in order to be eligible to compete for the Miss THSRA title again after being crowned, one must give back their crown and resign. McKenna said the judges kept looking at her and then Carter, trying to make a decision on who should be crowned.
“I was pretty shocked,” she said. “The whole time I was nervous. I try to think positively because each judge is looking for confidence. I kept reminding myself that I still have a chance.”
