Mary Sayles

Mary Sayles of Edna passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at the age of 87. She was born Febr. 15, 1926 in Boston, Ga., to the late Herburt and Mamie Brooks Wilkerson.
Mary had a Masters in Education. She was a retired teacher who shaped many young minds throughout Georgia, New York and Texas for over 30 years. She was active in the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association. Mary was a member of Scruggs United Methodist Church and worked at the Lake Texana Museum. She was also a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Saundra Frommer and her husband William of Freeport, Long Island; sister, Etta W. Beard of New York; step-grandchildren, Felton Lloyd, Sonja Sayles Hines.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Cornelius Felton Sayles; and stepson, Felton Cleveland.
A service will be held at Oakland Funeral Home in Edna on Thursday, May 23 at 10 a.m. with a burial to follow at Sayles Cemetery. Rev. Hayward Robinson will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edna Band Boosters at Edna High School 1303 West Gayle Street, Edna, Texas 77957.
