With the temperatures rising, a dip in the City of Edna pool sounds cool and refreshing.
Golden Crescent YMCA will once again take over the operations and management of the pool in Edna until Labor Day. YMCA Aquatics Director Amanda Howe said the pool will open on June 1 and will close on Labor Day. The operating hours will be from noon to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and the swimming pool is located at Shelby Park. She said the YMCA has not changed the cost of admission, which is $1.50.
Howe said the YMCA is trying to put together a swim team by finding an instructor. The City of Edna used to sponsor the Edna Piranha swim team.
Swim lessons will be given at the swimming pool in the morning and evening. Lessons are $40.
She said when the YMCA ran the pool last year everything went well. The City of Edna does have a contract with the Golden Crescent YMCA to run the pool until Labor day.
Currently, the Golden Crescent YMCA has job openings available for the summertime. Job applications may be picked up at the Edna City Hall, 126 W. Main. Applicants are required to take YMCA lifeguard lessons to qualify.
“We are in the process of hiring 10 to 12 lifeguards to run the pool,” Howe said.
