Appraisal notices are out, values up

Appraisal notices have been mailed to property owners around Jackson County. Forty-three percent of the county’s population is already aware of this because they found the notices in their mailboxes at the beginning of the month.
According to Damon Moore, chief appraiser at the Jackson Central Appraisal District, out of the total parcels in the county, the 43 percent received notices because there was either new ownership, a name change or an increase in the market value.
Only 8 percent of the notices went to residentialproperty owners.
“They would have received a notice if they were a new owner or the value increased,” Moore said. “Some land in different areas or neighborhoods also saw an increase in value because of the sales,” he added. “There has to be a substantial amount of sales to justify a change. I don’t make any changes unless I have plenty of evidence to back up the change.”
