County updating reverse call system

A Reverse 911 call sent to residents in parts of Jackson County on April 30 brought attention to the need for their cell phones to be registered in the system.
Jackson County sheriff’s deputies were contacted by Wharton County law enforcement on April 30 after they had located it on FM 1300. According to Deputy Jason McCarrell, there were three other stolen vehicles located at that time. Wharton County officers lost the stolen vehicle, which was reported stolen from Katy, and Jackson County law enforcement located it on FM 530.
“A pursuit ensued where the driver of the stolen Dodge pickup left the roadway and crashed through a gate,” McCarrell said. “He continued to flee officers through a pasture until he jumped a creek in the truck. At that point we were unable to continue the pursuit. The suspect eventually came to a stop where he fled from the vehicle.”
The sheriff’s office issued an alert to residents in the area to warn them about the individual, inform them that a DPS helicopter would be circling the area, and encourage them to lock their cars and homes.
McCarrell added the individual they were looking for was probably not armed and was just “laying low waiting for someone to pick him up.”
According to Sheriff Andy Louderback, the Reverse 911 call was to go out to those who lived in the vicinity of the manhunt, which was in GeoZone D of the Reverse 911 system. That zone includes a large part of northern Jackson County.
