Daniel Janica

 

Daniel John Janica was born April 12, 1930 in Ganado to the late Joseph Franklin and Frances Skrla Janica and passed away April 27, 2013 at the age of 83. 
He attended the Ganado school system and graduated from Ganado High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy and remained in the naval reserves for six years. He married Louise Cornelius of Edna on June 12, 1952 in Edna. They built their home on the old Janica Farm south of Ganado where they raised their two sons, Kelly Russell and Jon Travis.
Dan, as a young man, was very active in his community. He was a charter member of the Ganado Jaycees, retired member of Ganado Volunteer Fire Dept., Ganado Industrial Foundation, South Texas Cattle Raiser’s Association, a life member of NRA, and served nine years as a member and president of the Ganado Independent School Board of Trustees. He was owner and operator of Janica Plumbing and Heating in Ganado. He was a Christian. He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, and Pappy and will be missed dearly.
Dan is survived by his wife of 60 years, louise Cornelius Janica; his son Retired Sheriff Kelly Russell Janica and wife Cynthia Elaine (Fenner), his grandson paramedic/firefighter Kurt Daniel Janica and wife Lareina (Pence), his great-grandchild Robin Louise, his granddaughter Kim Ellen Janica Peters and husband Brett, his great-grandchildren Raelynn Ann and Jase Michael all of Ganado; his son: Retired State Trooper Jon Travis Janica  and wife Lesa Ann(Storz), his granddaughters Sarah Ann Janica and Diana Louise Janica of Edna; his brother: Joseph T. Janica and wife Ann of Hobbs, New Mexico and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Frances Janica, Marion (Ellen) Shafer, and Daisy Strauss, all of Ganado and one brother, Franklin S. Janica of San Diego, Calif.  
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 30 from 6-8 p.m. at the Ganado Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 1 at the Ganado Funeral Home with Rev. Bernard Ritchea officiating. Burial will follow at the Ganado City Cemetery.  
Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis W. Bures, Anthony Sulak, Andrew E. Brown, Gordan Moore, Sylvester Hajovsky, Joseph T. Janica Jr., C.A. Preuss, and Gary Hastings.  
Honorary pallbearers are Ganado Feed and More Coffee Club, John Hurt, Tommy Jacobs, Bubba Toman, Scotty Andel, James Johnson, Johnny Vesely and Barry Wind.
