To the voters of Edna Independent School District:
I am writing this letter to praise the “Viewpoints” article in the March 27 issue concerning the proposed new tax for the ESD #3 to be voted on May 11. I cannot agree more and would like to add that I am one of those taxpayers with all property in EISD but none in the city limits.
This tax will be a double taxation for EMS services on all of my properties. The Edna EMS had the opportunity to merge with the Jackson County EMS but evidently refused to work something out. I for one do not want to pay an additional tax for services used only in the city of Edna and not the remaining EISD areas.
I agree a county-wide or district fire department should be considered but don’t use the threat of not having a fire department if this doesn’t pass to get the Edna EMS funded.
The article stated that officials of various departments were asked to sit on a panel to answer questions at a town hall meeting and all declined. I don’t blame them because I don’t think they could justify this proposed tax for property owners of EISD that are not in the city of Edna.
I will vote against this proposed tax and hope all other votes will too. Please take the time to vote.
