Ganado also looks into ESD

While residents in the Edna Independent School District have an option to vote for or against the proposed emergency services district 3 in May, some Ganado firefighters and city officials are considering creating an ESD in Ganado.
Ganado Fire Chief Bernard Scott said he hopes the Ganado City Council will consider in the near future the creation of an ESD.
“An ESD is not a short term fix,” he said. “An ESD is the solution to all of our problems. Ganado right now is in a bad need of a fire station so the city taxpayers cannot afford the burden of building a new fire station. We currently have equipment sitting outside with hail damage and the equipment that we do have we can’t replace with any other equipment because all the equipment is too big in the fire station.”
Scott said an ESD will fund and help pay for the fire station and any equipment the Ganado Fire Department needs. He said the Ganado Fire Department is 100 percent behind the formation of the proposed ESD No. 3.
“Because we do understand the financial burden of a fire service that is solely relied on the city taxpayers,” Scott said. “Costs are going up every year. An ESD is the most fair solution to all of it because we are going to spread the burden of the department throughout our coverage area, instead of just our city taxpayers.”
