Edna Mexican School to get historical marker

Frank Condron gave an annual report on the Jackson County Historical Commission at the March 25 Jackson County Commissioners’ Court meeting, which included some projects the commission was working on.
Condron, who is chairman of the Jackson County Historical Commission, said the Francitas historical marker was the biggest project. The marker was placed in Francitas and a dedication ceremony took place on June 2, 2012. The marker gave information on how Francitas was found and gave historical background on the city. He said the ceremony was attended by about 70 individuals.
The historical commission has filled out an application for a historical marker for the Edna Mexican School that was approved by the Texas Historical Commission. He said once the Jackson County Historical Commission receives a draft of what will be written on the marker, they can tweak it, but cannot re-write it.
