Council approves drainage study

The City of Edna is taking drainage seriously and council backed that up by hiring KSA Engineering of Longview to provide a drainage master plan to alleviate flooding in the city.
Rob Crabtree and Kent Blue with KSA were on hand to explain the scope of the project to council. Crabtree said in the course of their review they would take particular note of areas the city staff has identified as prone to flooding. Those areas include Chase St. and surrounding areas, Harlem St. and surrounding areas, Fannin St. and surrounding areas, and Buttercup and Meadow Lane and surrounding areas.
When the study is complete the city will have a drainage area map with proposed improvements to the existing drainage systems, along with the cost of the proposed improvements.
With construction on at least nine new homes planned in the Meadows subdivision, council approved the city crews to take the steps necessary to relieve flooding in that area. Brad Ryan, director of public works for the city, said they had consulted with an engineering firm to help get floodwater off the street. He said they planned to put storm drains in front of a house on Buttercup and run the water into Gayle St.
