A good time was had by all

I’ve received many reunion and party write-ups for the paper that end with “a good time was had by all.” I’ve wondered how they know that. Did they ask each and every person who attended? Would they tell the truth if they were asked? Sometimes I just think too hard about some things.
Well, I attended the Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Membership Banquet on March 12 and I think I can say “a good time was had by all.” Almost all of the employees here at the Jackson County Herald-Tribune attended and the next day talked about what a nice time they had. I’ve spoken to others who were there as well and the sentiment is the same – it was a nice evening with good food and good company.
Chamber President Donna Coleman and the directors did a great job of choosing the theme “A Taste of Italy in Jackson County” and inviting Doug Reed with Lavaca Bluffs Vineyard and Winery as the guest speaker. Doug was funny and entertaining and kept the crowd engaged with information on his winery and history of the area.
The highlight of the evening is always the presentation of the Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year and Ag Producer of the Year along with the Beautification Awards. A special touch this year was Congressman Blake Farenthold’s representative presenting Congressional Recognition to the award recipients. What an honor and what a wonderful keepsake that is sure to become.
There are exciting things going on in Jackson County. Economic Development Chairman Clay Kolle shared news of businesses considering our county for future expansion and an increase in home building and sales. See next week’s paper for an interview with Clay and all the details.
It was also great to see how many businesses and individuals support the Chamber. It is a vital part of our community and it wouldn’t be possible without their support.
So I feel pretty confident in saying “A good time was had by all.” I am looking forward to all the good things coming to Jackson County in 2013.
