County flood plain maps see changes

 

Jackson County residents attended a Federal Emergency Management Agency open house on March 14 at the Jackson County Services Building to get information regarding preliminary floodplain maps.
  The maps indicated what homes are placed in a floodplain zone. The results of the maps will affect their flood insurance rates. Among those who attended the open house were Charles Taylor of Cape Carancahua and Shelly Srp of Russell Cain Real Estate in Edna. 
FEMA Contractors Jerri Daniels and Tracey Gilbert assisted both individuals by showing them preliminary flood maps on the computer and sharing new flood risk information and preliminary flood insurance rate maps.
“I found the FEMA meeting very informational,” Srp said. “I am a local realtor and I attended the event to find out all the information that I could to ensure that I am able to inform my clients of the changes.”
