JV Maidens trump Cowgirls

    Ganado Maiden junior varsity softball played the Edna Cowgirls in Edna Feb. 18, winning in five innings 11-7.
    Kylie Hicks started on the mound for Ganado, pitching four innings against 28 batters. Hicks struck out 7 batters, walked 11, allowing a pair of hits and just 3 earned runs.
    Stacy Mader drove in a pair of runs while popping in and out of the lineup, scoring once. Desirea Vasquez scored twice after being walked both times and Maddie Workmon drove in a run with a sacrifice ground ball in the first and crossed home twice. Hannah Janssen was walked three times, scoring twice and picked off heading home in the third. Lead off hitter Hayley Carter had an RBI double and scored once and Hicks brought in a runner off a single in the first and brought in another RBI on a shallow double in the fifth. Alix Luera had an RBI on a sacrifice grounder in the first, scored in the fourth, and hit a single in the fifth inning. Alicia Garcia drove in a runner in the fifth, Alexis Alfaro was struck out twice, pushing to four and five pitches in each case, and Lizzie Callis notched a pair of RBIs.
