Fire destroys home in Ganado

A fire in the 600 block of East Rogers St. in Ganado last night left one renter without a home. The renter, whose name has not been released, was out of town. The name of the owner of the building has also not been released.
According to Bernard Scott, chief of the Ganado Volunteer Fire Department, the fire was reported shortly before midnight. The fire completely burned the structure, popping embers towards nearby homes.
“The building was fully engulfed when I arrived so we went into a defensive attack,” Scott said.
There was no damage to any of the surrounding buildings.
The Ganado Volunteer Fire Department, Edna Fire Department, and Edna Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the blaze but were unable to save the home.
Scott said it took about 2 and 1/2 hours to get the fire under control due to the high winds and size of the structure and could not say how the fire started.
“The city fire marshal [Paul Lesak] and I will investigate the scene to try to determine the cause of the blaze,” he added.
